The Challenge: Ensuring DVS Compliance Across Bleach of Lavant’s Fleet
With vehicles of varying ages and configurations, Bleach of Lavant faced a complex challenge: upgrading every HGV in its fleet to comply with London’s DVS regulations while maintaining operational efficiency. Under TfL rules, all HGVs over 12 tonnes must have a valid DVS safety permit to operate in Greater London. Non-compliance can result in fines of up to £550 per offence.
For a company with regular London routes, these penalties could quickly escalate. The brief was clear: install a cost-effective camera system that ensured full compliance across both their DAF XF 44-tonne and DAF CF 18-tonne vehicles.
The Solution: Traffic Angel PSS 2024 DVS Camera System
Bleach of Lavant partnered with us to install the latest camera system, a fully compliant Progressive Safe System that meets the latest London DVS requirements.
The TrafficAngel PSS system combines three advanced AI cameras that deliver Moving Off Information System (MOIS) and Blind Spot Information System (BSIS) functionality, both essential for DVS 2024 compliance.
MOIS – Front Detection Camera
A single AI camera mounted at the front detects pedestrians and vulnerable road users (VRUs) within 2 metres of the vehicle’s front and 0.5 metres either side.
- When the vehicle moves off, an audible and visual alert (“Pedestrian front”) notifies the driver of any VRU presence.
- When stationary, the system displays the detection visually only, preventing unnecessary distractions or driver overstimulation.
BSIS – Corner and Side Detection
Two additional AI cameras monitor the vehicle’s nearside from 1 metre in front to 9 metres behind (adjusted for smaller CF units). The detection area extends 2.2 metres from the side of the vehicle, divided into:
- Red Zone (0–1.1m): High-risk area triggering immediate alert
- Amber Zone (1.1–2.2m): Early warning for potential side hazards.
Integration & Upgrades
Given the age and variety of Bleach of Lavant’s fleet, the installation team upgraded and replaced older left-turn alarms, monitors, and outdated sensors.
Our PSS system integrates seamlessly with the vehicle’s existing components:
- Combines left-turn alarm and camera feeds into a single Full HD 1080p monitor
- Simplifies installation and reduces cost through unified power and trigger systems
- Uses modular components for easy replacement in case of damage
This approach not only ensured full DVS compliance but also improved driver visibility, confidence, and overall vehicle safety.
Intelligent Power Management
Long-distance drivers often travel at motorway speeds where urban safety systems can become distracting. Our PSS 2024 system automatically powers down above 20 mph, then reactivates below that speed, ensuring functionality only when needed.
