PlantShield 360 is an AI camera-based Human Form Recognition (HFR) Camera System designed to help prevent collisions between plant machinery and pedestrians.
Using up to four AI cameras, PlantShield 360 detects and recognises human passers-by within defined risk areas and provides escalating in-cab audio-visual warnings to support safer manoeuvring on busy sites.
How the HFR Camera System Works
360° coverage with AI Cameras
Up to four AI cameras are positioned to cover the full area around the machine, reducing blind spots. The AI is designed to detect and recognise the human form within pre-defined detection areas and warn operators visually and/or audibly when there’s a risk of conflict.
Configurable detection zones
PlantShield 360 lets you set customisable detection zones to match site requirements, configured as one or two zones:
- Outer “Yellow Zone”: Pedestrian shown in yellow on the in-cab LED display + an audible positional callout (e.g., “pedestrian left”).
- Inner “Red Zone”: Pedestrian shown in red + a clear warning to stop immediately.

In-cab LED proximity display with direction guidance

A bright LED display provides a simple, quick-to-read view of where the pedestrian is and how close they are, supporting safer decisions in real time. (Many comparable HFR systems pair AI detection with in-cab visual guidance.)
Smart alerting when stationary
When the vehicle is stationary, no audible alert; only the visual cue. A precision G-sensor controls this by detecting even small machine movements, helping reduce unnecessary audible warnings.
Key Benefits for Site Safety & Compliance
Improve safety culture on busy worksites
- Clear “approach caution / stop now” logic supports consistent operator behaviour
- Helps reinforce pedestrian–plant interaction controls and training
Flexible for mixed fleets and changing site layouts
- Suitable for multiple machine types and operating conditions
- Zone can be configured per application
Reduce collision risk with a dedicated Human Form Recognition System
- HFR AI cameras focus on detecting people in risk areas
- Configurable zones to suit different sites, vehicles, and traffic plans
- Escalating alerts that prioritise urgent risks (yellow → red)

Add-Ons & Integrations
“Thumbs Up” Safe-Approach System
For controlled, safer approaches near the machine:
- When the machine is in use, a red “stop” display indicates it’s unsafe to approach.
- A nearby worker/pedestrian gives a thumbs-up gesture.
- The operator presses a button to disable the machine, triggering a bright green thumbs-up icon mounted high above the door for clear visibility.
This aligns with the broader “Digital Thumbs Up” approach used to support safe engagement between workers and operators.

DVR recording + TrafficAngel LiveDrive streaming
Add a DVR to:
- Record all camera channels
- Stream live video to the TrafficAngel LiveDrive Platform
- Download historical recordings for investigation, training, and evidence
Email/SMS alerts to site management
Configure alerts that notify authorised staff when a pedestrian is detected while the machine is in motion, supporting escalation and rapid-response workflows.
Driver-facing camera
Add a driver-facing camera to monitor behaviours/events such as:
- Eyes closed / fatigue indicators
- Distraction
- Smoking
- Mobile phone use
Where PlantShield 360 Delivers the Biggest Impact

High-risk zones
- Reversing areas and loading bays
- Tight access points, blind corners, congested routes
- Shift-change peaks and pedestrian crossings
- Sites with high ambient noise.
Common machine categories
Excavators, wheel loaders, dumpers, telehandlers, forklifts, yard vehicles.
Construction Sites
PlantShield 360 Systems are increasingly vital on London construction projects, where tight spaces, constant vehicle movement and heavy pedestrian activity raise the risk. With excavators, dumpers, telehandlers, and HGVs working alongside ground teams, the right safety technology helps reduce plant-to-pedestrian collisions, supports compliance, and protects people on site.

H+H x PlantShield 360 (HFR Camera System) Case Study
H+H, the UK’s largest aircrete manufacturer, runs high-output sites 24/7, meaning constant movement of heavy loads from production to storage and outbound trucks. To reduce risk where forklifts and pedestrians operate in proximity, TrafficAngel carried out a site assessment and specified an integrated solution using the PlantShield 360 System alongside the HFR camera system.
“The PlantShield 360 and HFR camera system have transformed safety on our site. The AI-driven pedestrian detection, clear driver alerts, and high-quality video recording have noticeably improved visibility around blind spots and high-risk areas. Installation by TrafficAngel was exceptionally professional, and the system integrates seamlessly with our daily operations. It’s a reliable, intelligent safety solution that delivers real value from day one.”
