A Complete 360° Campervan Security System Install for a Touring Couple

A campervan security system was the top priority for Russel and his wife Alison when they retired, ready to embrace a life of travel, exploration, and adventure. With Europe and the UK on their bucket list, they wanted complete peace of mind that both their campervan and their beloved terrier, Lucky, would be protected wherever the road led them. To make that possible, they turned to TrafficAngel, experts in advanced vehicle safety solutions, for a robust and reliable security setup tailored to life on the move.

Their vision was clear: a high-quality 360 camera system delivering full external visibility, complete remote monitoring access, and an additional internal camera to keep an eye on Lucky whenever he opted to stay inside the van. What followed was a bespoke installation tailored around the couple’s needs and the technical challenges unique to campervans.

Full 360° Visibility and Remote Monitoring with your Campervan Security System

Russel and Alison requested a five-camera campervan security system built for touring safety and peace of mind. Their requirements included:

  • Four exterior cameras providing seamless 360-degree vision around the campervan.
  • One internal camera to monitor the living area, particularly valuable when Lucky stayed behind.
  • A cab-mounted monitor capable of displaying a 360° view at all times.
  • Remote live-view capability, allowing the couple to check on their vehicle from anywhere.
  • Downloadable video footage in case they ever needed to review or share recorded events.

This combination makes the system ideal for touring couples, solo travellers, and anyone seeking peace of mind for life on the road.

Campervan Wiring and Structural Considerations

Every campervan is different, and its unique construction presents challenges that don’t exist in standard vehicle installations. Russel’s van was no exception.

Running the Reverse Camera Cable

The main challenge lay in routing the reverse camera cable through the rear of the vehicle, specifically, the bedroom area. Campervans often contain built-in furniture, fixtures, and concealed wiring, so we carefully followed existing cable routes where possible. This ensured:

    • Minimal disruption to the interior

    • A clean, professional finish

    • Hidden and protected cabling for long-term reliability

The DVR Placement

A secure and accessible DVR location is crucial in any campervan security system. After inspection, we selected the load area beneath the floor. This offered several benefits:

    • Safe from accidental damage

    • Discreet and out of sight

    • Optimal for powering and routing all camera feeds

    • Protected from temperature extremes and vibration

This location ultimately simplified the wiring installation and ensured longevity for the entire system.

Mounting the Side Cameras on a Fibreglass Body

To achieve a true 360 camera system, the side cameras must be positioned with precision. On Russel’s campervan, this meant placing them far enough along the body and high enough to capture blind spots as well as door-side approach zones.

However, the fibreglass structure required special consideration:

    1. Identifying access points without compromising the integrity of the fibreglass.

    1. Creating waterproof pass-throughs to protect the cables and prevent leaks.

    1. Ensuring vibration resistance for consistent, clear footage during long journeys.

Our engineers carefully prepared each fix point and sealed the cable entry routes to maintain structural strength and watertight protection, an essential step for any outdoor-exposed system.

The Quad-monitor Advantage

To deliver the full benefits of a 360° view, we fitted the HDSCR4Q7 monitor in the cab. Unlike the standard HDSCR4 model, this upgraded display allows multiple channels to be triggered simultaneously.

For Russel, this meant Channels 2, 3, and 4 could be activated at the same time, providing a real-time view of:

    • The rear of the vehicle

    • Both sides of the camper

    • Surrounding blind spots during manoeuvres

The HDSCR4Q7 also supports HD quad-screen viewing, giving the couple crisp, detailed visuals whether parking, reversing, towing, or monitoring campsite surroundings.

A Safer, More Confident Touring Experience

With the new TrafficAngel 360 camera system installed, Russel and Alison now travel with complete peace of mind. They enjoy:

    • Full 360° visibility for safer driving and manoeuvring

    • Interior monitoring to check on Lucky

    • Remote live-view access from anywhere in the UK or abroad

    • Securely stored, easily downloadable video footage

For retirees embarking on a long-awaited touring adventure, the right technology makes all the difference. This custom campervan security system gives them the confidence to enjoy every mile knowing that their home-on-wheels, and Lucky, are protected by the reliability and innovation of TrafficAngel.
